Find BOP Release Records

To find someone released from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, use the federal locator and keep the result separate from Franklin County and Idaho custody. BOP records cover federal sentences, not an ordinary county charge or every person temporarily held for the U.S. Marshals Service. A past federal release date can confirm departure from BOP custody, but it may reflect transfer to another authority. Federal court records, the actual host jail, and the receiving agency may still be needed before calling the event a community release.

BOP Federal Release Meaning

The Federal Bureau of Prisons locator retains federal inmate records from 1982 to the present. A past release date with no facility generally means the person left BOP custody. Results may state “RELEASED” or “Not in BOP Custody.” Those labels do not establish that every form of custody or supervision ended. BOP can release someone to supervised release, another sovereign, immigration authorities, or another legal hold.

“IN TRANSIT” still means federal custody. A Community Corrections Management entry may relate to halfway-house or home-confinement administration within BOP custody. A future date is projected and can change. BOP also warns that First Step Act review and Federal Time Credit recalculation may temporarily affect dates.

Important: A BOP release result does not prove release from a Franklin County case or another agency’s custody.

Search BOP Release Records

Open the BOP Inmate Locator. Number search is best when a BOP Register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number is known. Name search permits optional age, race, and sex filters. Compare more than the name before selecting a result.

  1. Choose number search or enter the legal first and last name.
  2. Narrow the results with the available identity filters.
  3. Record the register number, release date, and exact status wording.
  4. Check the federal docket for the judgment and later orders.
  5. Ask the receiving authority when BOP release was a transfer.

BOP’s locator record guide says a past date without a facility signals departure from BOP custody. It is a federal event, not a finding about an Idaho charge. Preserve the displayed date and wording exactly.

Federal Custody Contact Routes

USMS handles federal pretrial and detainee custody, often through contract beds, but it does not offer a public name locator like BOP. A Franklin-area detainee can move from a county host into federal custody before BOP designation. Check the known host and federal docket before contacting the responsible office.

These offices explain jurisdiction. They are not public real-time prisoner locators and may restrict information for security or legal reasons. A host jail departure record can identify a federal pickup before a BOP record becomes useful.

BOP Release Status Fields

Federal fields answer narrow questions. Read them with the federal judgment and any transfer record.

Field Meaning
Register number Primary BOP identity key
Release date Past or projected BOP departure date
RELEASED No longer held by BOP under that record
IN TRANSIT Still in federal custody during movement
Location Facility or federal community-corrections placement

A name-only match is unsafe. Compare register number, age, federal case, and event date. Do not merge a federal person with a Franklin County Idaho record solely because names resemble each other.

Franklin Federal Release Trail

A Franklin County arrest does not become federal merely because USMS uses a local contract bed. First identify the case and arresting authority. Check the Franklin court routing page for local host context, then consult the federal docket if the charge is federal. The host jail records physical departure; the federal docket records the legal basis; BOP records later sentenced custody.

A person can disappear from Caribou, Bannock, or Cache custody because USMS moved them. BOP may not yet show a pretrial detainee. Conversely, a BOP release date does not resolve a separate Franklin warrant or Idaho sentence. Ask each custodian to explain its own event rather than collapsing them.

The Franklin County release search provides the county-side sequence and links the separate custody systems.

Request Federal Release Records

When the locator is insufficient, make a focused request to the federal custodian. Identify the register number, federal case, requested event, and date range. Ask for the existing release or transfer record rather than a broad file. For the physical exit from a county contract bed, request the host jail event separately.

Federal access rules differ from Idaho’s Public Records Act. The agency may redact protected, safety, medical, or third-party details. A federal docket can supply the public judgment and supervised-release terms, while BOP supplies its custody record. USMS may be the source for a pretrial transfer.

Keep “released from BOP,” “released to supervised release,” “transferred,” and “free of all custody” distinct. A later warrant or agency pickup can change current status without erasing the earlier federal release event.

Read Franklin BOP Results

The official BOP locator shown here is the appropriate public starting point for a sentenced federal person connected to Franklin County. It accepts a federal number or a name with added filters. The source image belongs only to this federal page because an IDOC or county-jail screen would answer a different custody question.

The locator layout reinforces the need to retain the register number and exact status beside the date. A past date is useful evidence, but the federal docket and any receiving-agency record supply the legal and physical context.

Identity checks matter here. Search engines can mix Franklin County, Idaho with counties of the same name across the country. Compare the federal district, register number, age, case number, and event date. When two official sources differ, report each source’s label and timestamp. Ask its custodian to correct or explain the disputed field instead of choosing the more convenient result.

Supervised release is imposed by the federal court and is distinct from Idaho probation or parole. It can continue after the BOP custody record says released. The federal judgment and probation office record govern that status. BOP’s release field does not show every term, and a county jail record does not prove completion of a federal sentence.

Verify Franklin Federal Identities

A public locator record can persist long after the federal custody event. That makes it useful for historical verification, but it does not describe the person’s present circumstances. Record when BOP was checked. Compare the register number, age, federal district, case number, and release date before connecting the result with Franklin County.

Search engines often mix Franklin counties in Idaho, Alabama, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington, and other states. A matching name is not enough. The federal docket and BOP identifier should point to the same person. Do not expose a full date of birth when age, register number, and case number provide a safer match.

If the federal docket, host jail, and BOP fields differ, preserve each official account. A court order can precede processing, a county host can record transfer before federal reception, and BOP can later revise a projected date. Ask the agency that owns the disputed field for an explanation or correction.

Supervised release is imposed by the federal court and differs from Idaho probation or parole. It can continue after BOP says released. The federal judgment and probation office record govern that status. BOP’s release field does not show every term, and a county jail departure does not prove completion of a federal sentence.

Cache Cross-Border Federal Checks

Franklin County’s Idaho court page lists Cache County Jail in Utah as detention information. A federal detainee could leave a local contract setting before BOP designation, so an Idaho-only search can miss the physical custodian. Check Cache for its own custody event, the federal docket or USMS for a federal transfer, and BOP only when its federal record applies. A Cache roster departure is not a BOP release date and does not prove community release.

Franklin Federal Source Routes

County-side facts come from separate official routes: the Franklin Sheriff page, the Franklin court page, and the Franklin iCourt dashboard. Use them to identify the local event, not to replace the BOP locator or federal docket.
